7 Easy To Care For Houseplants
Beautiful, sturdy, minimal maintenance.
by Azalea Thompson on May 22
Brighten up your space this spring with indoor houseplants that can handle some neglect! These sturdy, low-maintenance beauties will help breathe some new life into your home, without the worry or need of some pruning + pampering.
We have curated a list of the top seven, easy-to-care-for houseplants that we love. Nearly all of these plants can be grown with indirect sunlight, acquire little watering needs (in case you forget), and thrive in similar indoor temperatures as most people (55-75 degrees F).
Chinese Evergreen
Attractive + Drought Tolerant
The Chinese Evergreen is known for holding very forgivable standards. It can often handle an overwatering or vice versa. This plant prefers low or indirect sunlight. Water until soil is modestly moist, and allow it to dry out between waterings. Another bonus: there are a plethora of varieties out there!
Jade Plant
Lush + Bright
The Jade Plant is a very popular indoor plant. Glossy, lush, and bright! This beauty needs lots of sunlight, so be sure to place it in the brightest spot in the house. Let the soil completely dry out before waterings, but don’t leave it hanging for too long.
Asparagus Fern
Elegant + Soft
The Asparagus Fern adds beautiful soft green foliage to any space. This plant is not a true fern despite the name, but appears like one. They like partial shade, and watering should be done each week, or after the surface has dried out. Feathered out leaves and branches that knot, this plant grows similar to a bamboo.
Fiddle Leaf Fig
Sturdy + Symbolic
The Fiddle Leaf Fig has a deeply rooted culture in China, and is considered a divine tree. This plant flourishes in direct sunlight. Keep soil moist and the environment moderately humid. With a strong resistance to nearly all pests + diseases, it is a great option for those in search of something easy to care for.
Chinese Money Plant
Chic + Abundant
The Chinese Money Plant derives from southern China. They hold mirror-like leaves, and are anciently believed to attract abundance + wealth to its owner. Keep soil moist without any accumulation of water, and in scattered sunlight.
Yucca
Earthy + Clean
The Yucca is celebrated for its strong absorption capacity, cleaning many gases and carbon dioxide in the air. The formula for keeping it healthy + happy is simple: sun and water. This plant is a lover of sunshine, so it is important it receives full sunlight, with the exception of summer. Water it regularly, keeping the soil moist without letting it accumulate.
Air Plant
Wispy + Delicate
The Air Plant has very little needs, it simply asks for a 10-15 minute soak in room temperature water every 1-2 weeks. Once soaked, allow them to thoroughly dry. Bright, indirect sunlight is best, mist occasionally.
